As always, you can get immunized by your family doctor, at a pharmacy, or a walk-in clinic. Who should get an influenza vaccine?
- Flu shots are recommended for individuals over the age of six months and older. These individuals should get a yearly influenza vaccination with rare exceptions.
- Vaccination is essential for people at high risk of serious illness from influenza (such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with certain medical conditions) and those able to transmit or spread influenza to those at high risk. In B.C., the influenza vaccine is accessible to these people.
Are you eligible for a free flu vaccination?
Free vaccinations are accessible to those who meet specific requirements such as:
- Children 6 months to less than five years of age
- Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy during the influenza season
- Seniors 65 years and older
- Residents of any age living in residential care assisted living or other group facilities.
- Indigenous people
- Children and adults with certain medical conditions, including:
- Heart or lung disorders such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or cystic fibrosis
- Kidney disease, chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis, diabetes, cancer, anemia or weakened immune system,
- Those with health conditions causing difficulty breathing, swallowing or a risk of choking on food or fluids, such as people with severe brain damage, spinal cord injury, seizures or neuromuscular disorders
- Those who can transmit to spread the flu to a high-risk population or at high-risk individual

The best way to protect yourself and others from the flu is by getting a flu shot and practicing preventative measures such as proper hand hygiene and staying home from school or work when sick; please be sure to keep an eye out on our website. We will be letting you all know when we get our supply of vaccines so you can book your appointment with one of our pharmacists or schedule a flu clinic at your place of work. We have covid safety measures in place at our pharmacies, such as social distancing, regular sanitization procedures, plexiglass partitions for added safety, and ensuring patients and customers have access to a mask.
